What happens during the creative process? What thoughts and decisions are made when an artist paints? In this documentary by filmmaker Henri-Georges Clouzot, entitled “The Mystery of Picasso” (1956), we can see how an artwork grows from nothing.
In the documentary, paints Picasso before the camera lens. He works on a glass surface, while recording from the other side. The Belgian documentary “Visit to Picasso” (1949), was a pioneer in this recording technique seven years earlier.
“The Mystery of Picasso” won Special Jury Prizes in Cannes in 1956.
